Англи хэлний дүрмийн хувьд ярианы хэсэг дутуу байвал өгүүлбэр утгагүй болно. Бүрэн бөгөөд утга учиртай өгүүлбэр нь сэдэв болж ажилладаг нэр үг, төлөөний үг гэх мэт ярианы зохих хэсгүүдээс бүрдэнэ; субьект буюу үйлдлийг дүрслэх нэр үг буюу үйл үг; хийж байгаа үйлдлийг зөвтгөх үйл үг; үг, хэллэгийг холбох холбоосууд; өгүүлбэрийг утга учиртай болгохын тулд угтвар үгийг ашигладаг.
Ярианы бүх хэсгүүд нь өгүүлбэрийн чухал талууд, ялангуяа угтвар үгс юм. Англи хэл дээрх угтвар үгс нь өгүүлбэрийг үнэн зөв, зөв болгоход тусалдаг. Англи хэл сурахдаа ямар ч угтвар үгс бараг ижил үүрэг гүйцэтгэдэг тул өгүүлбэрт хэрэглэхэд тохиромжтой эсэхэд эргэлздэг.
