Joe Biden is a name that echoed in the 2020 US Election. His name, which is associated with both tragic and political setbacks, won the heart of the Americans as he promised redemption and restoration of One Great America.

Despite old age, he toppled Donald Trump in the nail-biting election over a large margin. The former Vice-President and the white-haired lion of Barack Obama are now taking the White House as the 46th American President-elect.

President Joe Biden has spent a lifetime in politics, with 36 years in the Senate and eight years serving in the Obama administration.

A Delaware native, the veteran Democrat hopes his pledge to unify Americans. He envisioned to put an end to a presidency that has failed to protect this nation. And vowed to end a presidency that has fanned the flames of hate, poured gasoline on every opportunity he had all across America.

In his words, Biden said: “It is clear that we are winning enough states to reach 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency. “I am not here to declare that we have won, but, I am here to report that when the count is finished we believe we will be the winners.”

Despite the crises that battered the USA in 2020, Mr. Biden in his victory speech said, “This is the time to heal in America.”

1.) He had a stutter as a child.

One fact about Joe Biden is that he is fighting stuttering even until now. Stuttering is a speech disorder that involves frequent and significant problems with normal fluency and flow of speech. Consequently, President Joe Biden has got voters worried about his mental fitness in his presidential candidacy because of this.

Having spent childhood in Scranton, Philadelphia, Joe Biden got bullied as a child because of the stutter. At school, his classmates mocked him for his debilitating stammer. He even reckons getting teased by a nun in seventh-grade asking him, “Mr. Buh-Buh-Buh-Biden, what’s that word?” because of his stutter, his classmates would call him ‘bye-bye’ when he attempted to say his last name.

2.) Mr. Biden, 77, is the oldest US president ever elected.

After beating Donald Trump in a knife-edge election, he is the oldest president-elect of the USA. Before winning the Democratic Nomination, Joe Biden thinks he’s too old to run for a second term. Subsequently, he said to pick a vice president who can take over the White House ‘immediately’ after his term.

Born Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., the 46th American President was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

3.) Mr. Biden played football in High School.

Joe Biden is a football fan. In fact, the former vice president played American Football at Archmere Academy, a Catholic prep school. There, the former vice president played wide receiver and running back, catching an impressive 19 touchdown passes.

4.) He suffered a family tragedy

Mr. Biden hit the national stage at just 29, with a surprise US Senate win in Delaware in 1972.

But just one month later, tragedy struck: his wife Neilia and their one-year-old daughter Naomi got killed in a car crash as they were Christmas shopping.

Mr. Biden’s two sons got severely injured but survived only for the eldest, Beau – who later became attorney general of Delaware – to succumb to cancer in 2015 aged 46.

5.) Mr. Biden remarried in 1977 to current wife Jill Tracy Jacobs, a teacher.

The pair were introduced on a blind date in 1975, and Mr. Biden had to propose five times before she agreed to marry him.

Mr. Biden often proudly refers to himself as ‘Jill Biden’s husband’ and after securing the Democratic nomination told an audience: “Just think of your favorite educator who gave you the confidence to believe in yourself, that’s the kind of First Lady Jill will be.”

6.) He ran for president twice, in 1987 and 2008

After he finished law school at Syracuse University, Joe Biden was then drafted for service in the Vietnam War. However, he failed the medical because of his asthma.

During a 2008 interview, Jo Biden revealed that his favorite movie is the “Chariots of Fire”. The said movie is a 1981 British historical drama film.

It depicted the true story of two British athletes in the 1924 Olympics: Eric Liddell: a devout Scottish Christian who runs for the glory of God, and Harold Abrahams, an English Jew who runs to overcome prejudice.

In the said interview, Biden said: “But the truth of the matter is the thing about it. There is a place where someone put personal fame and glory behind principles. That to me is the mark of real heroism when someone would do that.”

9.) He purchase a puppy in 1967 for his first wife Neilia and called it 'Senator'.

He is a pet lover. Currently, Mr. Biden has two dogs called Major and Champ. He got Champ, a three-year-old German Shepherd, in 2008 and adopted Major, who is the same breed, 10 years later.

10.) Joe Biden loves chocolate-chip flavored ice-cream.

In comments from 2016, he said: “My name is Joe Biden and I love ice cream.” He added: “I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. But I eat a lot of ice cream.”

11.) He is the youngest Senator ever elected in the United States.

At 29, he was one of the youngest people ever elected to the United States Senate. He met the constitutional age requirement of 30 by the time he was sworn in.

12.) He is the second Catholic president in US history. John F. Kennedy was the first.

Mr. Biden traces his Catholic faith back to Catholic schools in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

In a 2015 interview with America’s editor in chief, Matt Malone, S.J., Mr. Biden called his faith a “gift.” Moreover,  He said that his parents inculcated Catholic values in him.

“Jesus Christ is the human embodiment of what God wanted us to do,” Mr. Biden said. He also said that Jesus wanted us to do one generic thing: treat people with dignity.”
