The Philippines was named the second most Instagrammable place in the world in 2021 by an international travel website Big 7.
The recognition seems to poise the Philippines as the prime travel destination for tourists once the COVID-19 pandemic ends in the months to come. Besides its gregarious people, the Philippines is a paradise home to pristine white sand beaches and marvelous natural spectacles.
In the previous years, the Philippines beaches and islands have been bagging travel recognitions from different award-giving organizations. However, this time, it’s the entire country that scored a major travel award from the tourism industry.
In the Big 7 50 Most Instagrammable Places in the World-2021 list, the popular online travel website ranked the Philippines second to Tokyo, Japan. Clearly, the Philippines bested out other leading travel destinations in the world like France, the USA and Australia, and the UK.
“Home to incredible natural wonders like an underground river and tranquil rice terraces besides a vibrant culture and history spanning several millennia; and over 7,500 islands—the Philippines as a whole are extremely Instagrammable,” the Big 7 said.
“From the bustling capital of Manila, complete with colorful colonial streets to the absolute oasis of Boracay, the gram opportunities here are endless,” it added.
Besides Tokyo, the Philippines is together with other international destinations such as Paris in France, New York City, and Istanbul in Turkey.
Last October, the Big 7 also included two Philippine islands among its list of the 50 most beautiful places in the world: Palawan, which ranked 8th, and Boracay, grabbing the 18th spot.
Amid the pandemic, the Philippines continues to keep the interest of the global travel community. Each award comes with prestigious recognitions and citations from a plethora of magazines and websites.
Besides the Big 7, the Philippines also took global recognition from Condé Nast’s Traveler. Last year, Boracay’s White Beach and El Nido grabbed the 2nd and 9th list of Condé Nast’s Traveler’s 25 Best Island Beaches in the World: 2020 Readers’ Choice Awards list.
Conde Nast’s Caitlin Morton admitted that she was in awe of Boracay island. She described Boracay as a “screensaver brought to life.” The traveler also detailed its “dazzling white sand, so-clear-you-can-see-your-toes water, and a lush jungle backdrop, available to anyone willing to make the journey.”
The island used to fly under the radar with one of the most beautiful beaches in the world — but the secret’s out. Now the three-mile White Beach, with its grottos and beachside dining (and nightlife), is its busiest swath of sand.
Morton also described the scenic island of Palawan as a consistent contender in travel polls. Moreover, Morton said the destination remains under the radar, even though it continues to rank highly in Readers’ Choice Awards.
“El Nido alone is home to around 50 white sand beaches – it’s impossible to choose just one – all of which are set around dramatic limestone formations and have the finest and whitest sand you’ll ever see. The water is so blindingly blue it makes the Caribbean Sea look murky in comparison. And the sunsets? Well, they’ll ruin you for life. Consider yourself warned,” Morton said.
Apart from Boracay and Palawan, Cebu Island also took home recognition as the Best Island in Asia in 2020. The announcement also brought pride to Filipinos for recognizing the Philippines island as one of the best in the world. “
The DOT said that the awards from these prestigious travel publications are an absolute sheer recognition of the Philippines. This just proves that the Philippines is a country of unparalleled beauty and uniquely diverse resources.

As our destinations reopen with health measures in place, we’ll continue our conservation efforts of these areas,” Puyat said.
At present, the Philippines still doesn’t welcome international tourists in the country because of COVID-19 related travel restrictions.
AS a result, international visitor arrivals in 2020 dropped 83.97 percent to 1.3 million from 8.2 million arrivals in 2019.
