Cebu recovery rate against COVID-19 nears 90%

Cebu City COVID-19 recovery is nearing 90%

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu City COVID-19 recovery rate is nearing 90% as of September 20 according to the Cebu City Emergency Operations Center.
Following the IATF suggestion of downgrading its quarantine status to Modified GCQ, Cebu City still showed an exponential decrease in its COVID-19 infection with a recovery rate of 89.7%. The Department of Health Central Visayas reports Cebu City having 9, 702 total cases, the highest in the region.
However, despite its MGCQ status, Cebu showed amazing recoveries at 8, 697 leaving only 345 active cases. Cebu City only logged 6 cases on September 7 and 12 on September 8 with total deaths at 660. The lowest reported case was last September 3, with 5 cases only.
Although Cebuanos’ were able to flatten the curve, Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella advised people to not be complacent since no vaccine is available yet in the market.

Mandaue hits  86% recovery rate

Meanwhile, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu City also showed remarkable progress against COVID-19 infection. Mandaue City also hits an 86% Covid-19 recovery rate. The City had 1, 839 recoveries out of the 2, 139 total confirmed cases. Out of the total figure, the city only reported 102 deaths and total active cases of 198.

The neighboring city of Lapu-Lapu City also reported 1, 934 recoveries, and only 6 new cases on September 8.

Local Tourism is starting

Because of the decreasing  COVID-19 infection, local tourism is starting to re-open to give vendors and tour operators. Besides, the Cebu City bus terminal has also reopened on September 9 after almost four months of closure because of the pandemic.
Carmen Quijano, bus terminal manager, pointed out to observe strict health protocols. She said that those who have no face mask and face shield cannot enter the facility.

Bacolod and Lanao del Sur, under MECQ

On the contrary, Bacolod and Lanao del Sur are placed under MECQ due to a continuous rise in COVID-19 cases. The said places will under Modified Enhanced community Quarantine from September 8-30.
DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III explained that Bacolod City reported 462 new cases in just 4 days.
Last September 1, Bacolod City reverted back to modified general community quarantine—the most relaxed quarantine form —despite the suggestion of experts to place it under MECQ.
As of August 28, the city already has a  total of 72%  COVID-19 dedicated bed occupancy. The figure already breached the 70% “danger threshold” set by the health department.
Moreover, National Task Force COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr recommended a stricter community quarantine in the two areas because Lanao del Sur is “contiguous to Iligan City and its [cases are] also rising.”
Comparatively though, infections in Bacolod are higher than Iligan and the province of Lanao del Sur.
